Sweetwater Gold
The history of Wyoming’s Gold Rush, 1867-1671, in the Sweetwater mining district is written by Marion McMillan Huseas. South Pass City was established near the Oregon Trail and was much like many mining towns of that era. One exception is that Esther Morris lived in this mining district. She was a woman who strongly believed in women suffrage and is credited with encouraging the introduction of the Woman Suffrage Act in the Wyoming Territorial Legislature. Thus, following this Wyoming became the first territory or state to allow women the right to vote. ($24.95)
Teton Jackson
The life and times of Jackson Hole’s famous outlaw is the story of a man who lived in the valley of Jackson Hole for a period of 8 years. From this area he and his men stole and sold both cattle and horses to ranchers in Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Idaho, and the Dakotas. Teton Jackson lived from 1846 to 1927. ($15.00)
Artifact: A Cultural Geography of Wyoming
This beautifully done book is a collection of black and white photos of artifacts located in Wyoming. Through photographs, Mike McClure has documented those seldom seen historic sites found in remote areas of Wyoming. The photos in this book are found in the Wyoming State Museum’s traveling exhibit of the same title. ($34.95)
